A place to find resources, discuss and learn about beef cattle farming and all its nuances. Okay, a place to joke around about farming, I guess.

DROUGHT! Dig a hole in the ground and bury them!

That word, seven letters I'm sick of hearing!  DROUGHT!

Victoria (Australia) only came out of the worst drought in one hundred years this year. I think our farm got three days of good Spring weather and now here we are again, experiencing the worst drought ever...

Okay, you city slickers I don't want to single you out for a beating because I know there are a hell-of-a-lot-of good and thoughtful people who live in cities - some of them are my relatives but drought doesn't just mean higher grocery prices and water restrictions. It means real live everyday people on fair dinkum Aussie soil, (remember that stuff?) busting their guts and their hip pockets to feed animals to keep them alive.

It's that simple.

I'm not about to dig a hole in the ground to bury my cattle like the sheep farmer down the road did the other day. At what point does one decide that digging a hole to bury your sheep is a good plan?

Hopefully as a Farmer, you never have to make that cold, hard decision, but the sad reality of this recent drought is that every farmer who faces a bad enough drought thinks seriously about doing that. It's when you'd rather do that than watch your animals suffer a cruel death from lack of nourishment.

IMAGINE, thirst, hunger, heat stroke (there is NO Air Conditioning in a paddock), loss of good health from pest infestation (that's itchy, annoying and uncomfortable, sometimes downright painful and those flies, flicking them from your eyes and face constantly) and finally total and unavoidable starvation followed by an all too slow death.

These animals have become part of the Farmers family. As much as we make out we are tough and rugged men and women of the land. We truly do care about the health and wellbeing of our animals - they become our family (This happens more than you might realize). That's why we chose to be Farmers.

You don't honestly think we'd farm for the money, do you?

I've personally spent the past five years forking out shitloads of money to build my cattle herd, feed them, vaccinate them, worm them, breed and care for them. Heck! My cattle have a better health regime than any member of my family!

The Australian Government speaks of assistance packages to help Aussie Farmers get through - Help is on the way! Bracks announced a new Legal Aid assistance package - FOR HEAVEN'S SAKES: WHAT cow or sheep needs Legal Aid? Have you ever heard of a cow eating a Legal Aid? Bone crunching goodness! WHAT FARMERS NEED IS FEED, FODDER, GRAIN, (that's like grass man, even dried grass will do! Hay Hay.)

AFFORDABLE FEED, FODDER, GRAIN AND WATER!!!! It's basic on the land. SO! GOVERNMENTS GET BACK TO BASICS! We, HUMANS, eat, we drink and we shit. If we don't eat, drink and shit we simply die!

When will people learn that money cannot be eaten!

For the love of the land, GOD, LET IT RAIN!

Only after the last tree has been cut down,
Only after the last river has been poisoned.
Only after the last fish has been caught.
Only then will you find that money cannot be
eaten.
